Workshop – Part 3: Discussion

Conclusions:
- The proposed inventions might be very realistic, maybe even too realistic.  They could all be introduced in the coming years. Others already exist. E.g. A lot of websites already evaluate different products like camera’s, hotels etc etc. It is also possible to scan the barcode of certain products with your phone to get information on them.
- Where can it go wrong? What about the objectivity of reviews, the difficulty of integrating different databases, problems attached to massive payments by creditcard.
- A lot of the new applications seem to be able to lead to an increased virtual gathering, and a decreased social gathering. You can stay at home and sell fruit you grow on your roof and you don’t have to start a big company distributing it.

Last question: What did we learn?
- People might carry implanted devices in the future
- Different stakeholders have different wishes for different types of inventions
- Things that seem totally impossible now, might still be possible in the future
- New inventions only work when the need for it is there
- There might be a need for multiple ID-cards for multiple identities
- While Chinese farmers are escaping the countryside and the growing of food, but Westerners seems to be wating to go back to home growing and urban farming
- It is easier to think of a new idea, but it’s difficult to make it a succes in practice
- Ministries behave very differently towards individuals and open data than companies and civil organisations
